What changed
PsychPal now includes a three-tier Safety & Crisis Protocol. In rare cases involving a credible threat of harm to yourself or others, a flagged message may be briefly reviewed by our safety team and your emergency contacts may be notified. This is a material change to how your data is handled, so we're asking every existing user to review and consent before continuing.
How We Handle Safety
PsychPal uses AI to recognize language that suggests a credible threat of harm to yourself or others. When a message is flagged:
- A short snippet (not your full conversation) may be reviewed by our trained safety team.
- The AI pauses briefly (15–20 minutes) so a human can be part of what comes next.
- In rare cases involving threats to many people, emergency contacts you've added may be notified by SMS.
- We do not autonomously contact 911 or authorities on your behalf.
- Flagged records are used only for safety review and audit — never sold, never used to train AI.
